The Final Curtain Call

Hey Monster Mob!

It’s been an amazing three years of featuring the newest and best in horror from LGBTQ+ creators from around the world. We feel so lucky to have been able to lead this show through some of the darkest years of our lives and hopefully bring some positivity to our community.

This podcast has been an amazing force for community-building and growth in our lives, but it’s been hard work, and as such, we no longer have the capacity to continue the show. But, we feel proud to be ending this show after producing three phenomenal seasons. We’re doing what we can to investigate archiving options so that our feed doesn’t go away anytime soon, and there will soon be opportunities to purchase merchandise on our Tee Public to help cover our hosting fees and to celebrate your love for Monsters Out of the Closet. We’re also figuring out a way to make our bonus content back-catalogue available for those who are able to offer one-time donations to help with maintenance fees, so stay tuned for that as well.

Lastly, to the hundreds of writers, musicians, performers, and audio editors who have been a part of this project, and to all of our listeners, we want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts.

Yours in horror,

The Admin Monsters

An Important Show Update

Hello Monsters,

We interrupt our usual stream of endearing scares to bring you some serious news.

Our producer, Nicole Calande has recently been informed that she has a small brain tumor, and will need to have surgery in the near future. She would like you all to know that she will be fine. This tumor is operable, and the surgery she needs for it will be routine.

With that said, she will need time, both to prep for and to recover from surgery. This will definitely impact our upcoming release schedule, and we will be going on hiatus to allow her time to recover. We thank you in advance for your patience and kindness. We will provide more details as we get word of when the surgery is scheduled and what her recovery timeline is expected to look like.

In the meantime, we will be trying to stay on top of our production schedule as best we can. In order to do that, we are hoping to bring in an interim editor to assist with episodes and bonus content. If you would like to support that endeavor, we would really appreciate if you could kick a few dollars the way of our Patreon, even if it’s just a one-time donation.*

Thank you, as always, for all your support. Every reblog, retweet, and conversation you have with your friends about MOutC has a HUGE impact on the podcast, and we cannot thank you enough. We wish you love and delight in the coming new year, and hope you can all keep your spirits up as we move into a fresh new decade.

Monsters OUT

*We completely understand that many of you are not in a place to make recurring payments toward the podcast, and if you are interested in making a one-time donation then Patreon has instructions for how to do that here.

Ch-ch-changes... (Good ones! We promise!)

Thanks so much for your continued support with our recently inconsistent posting schedules. Running a podcast between two very stressed people with full time jobs is a challenge, but rest assured, we are committed to this project.

We are so grateful to have gotten lots of help from supporting producer and frequent contributor, Taara Rangan, and recent sound design and audio editing support from Allara Din.

However, even with the additional help, we recognize that our podcast workload is too great to be sustainable in the long run. After much thought and deliberation, we are making some changes to our programming to help us keep regularly putting out content we can be proud of.

First, on our main feed, you will see some changes including likely moving our bonus interviews into text format, where they will live on our website. Most obvious, we will be incorporating an off-season into our podcast schedule. Production—including submission calls, audio adaptation, and recording—will run from February to October. This new schedule will take effect this October.

In addition, we are saying goodbye to some of our more time-intensive Patreon rewards and adding new sneak peak rewards. For our Patrons, check out the Patreon for more details.

In the meantime, get ready because submissions will reopen between April 1st and April 30th to fill the remainder of our Season 3 episodes. We hope to see your submissions in our inbox!

Thank you all again—we love this project and we so appreciate you being a part of it.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Vogueing + Pumpkin Head = Gay Icon? Yes!

Vogueing + Pumpkin Head = Gay Icon? Yes!

We at Monsters Out of the Closet are so thrilled to not only be celebrating Halloween, but also the successful end of our first year as a podcast. Our producers, Nicole and Shriya started this podcast to help fill a void in LGBTQ+ representation in horror, so we are pleased that this project has grown to a point where we can compensate our artists and be a part of a growing community of LGBTQ+ horror fans and podcasters.

Our new stickers look spooktacular!

Now as we enter our second year, we are celebrating with our annual Halloween episode, which is out now, and a month-long fundraiser for our Patreon. If you become a new or upgrading member before November 30th, you can receive a free first-edition sticker (designed by Allie Schaff). We hope to expand our merchandise offerings in the coming months to include pins, t-shirts, and prints. As a non-profit podcast, all financial support goals to compensating our artists and ensuring that we are able to continuing giving back to our community.

There’s more to come in Year 2 of Monsters Out of the Closet.

In addition to our new episode and exclusive merch offer on Patreon, we are also happy to be gaining more and more recognition online, like our recent inclusion in a roundup of diverse indie horror podcasts on The Mary Sue. All things considering, tings are boding well for Year 2 of Monsters (there are still plenty of opportunities to submit pieces for 2019).

We want to thank you from the bottom of our bloody hearts for your support. Have a very spooky and fun Halloween!

Here's To Another Six Months!

Woohoo! We're at the halfway point of our first year, and we are so thrilled that our decrepit form is still roaming around. Thanks for moaning braaaiiinnss with us, dear #MonsterMob.

We're so pumped about how the podcast has grown these past months as sound design has become more ambitious and content has forayed more into audio dramas. If you haven't heard our first full length original audio drama, "Swipe Left For Zombies," you should!

We are so appreciative to all of talented voice actors, writers, and musicians for contributing and we look forward to more incredible submissions. We are currently seeking submissions for our May through July episodes (CREATURES, LIBERATE, and RECLAIM).

You can also support the show through Patreon - all proceed go to covering our hosting overhead, and going towards the goal or paying all our writers (past and future).

It's been a haunting six months, here's to the next six <3

Hello Monsters! First of all, thanks to everyone at PodCon who wanted to learn more about our podcast - you all rock! (To listen to previous episodes, you can check out out Listen tab, or subscribe wherever you get podcasts).

A lot of inspiration for this podcast came from podcasts like Welcome to Night Vale, Alice Isn't Dead, Lore, and Selected Shorts, and it was awesome to learn from, and even meet some of the people involved with those shows at PodCon.

Since PodCon, we (Shriya and Nicole) have been talking about how to help this podcast grow, and how we can better connect with more of our listeners. On that front, we are launching exciting new efforts within our podcast in the next few days. (*cough* Patreon coming soon *cough*) Stay tuned!

We love our listeners and community so much, so thank you for being here with us!
